The Process, Pricing, Cleaning, How to Order, and Shipping
The process starts with a #8-18oz heavy weight canvas. Both sides are primed, sanded and given 2-3 coats of base color. The 2” hem is glued and corners are mitre-cut. I then apply the design and paint 2 coats. Finally, 4 coats of Satin Floor Poly finishes the mat.
Prices can vary greatly from one floorcloth to another. Size, number of colors and pattern determine the price. An average 2ft x 3ft mat with 2-3 colors and simple design can start at $125.00. A 2ft x 4ft average price may start at $300.00. Of course the larger, more complex and colorful floorcloths will rise in price. For mailing, I roll the floorcloth up in protective plastic sheeting and put in a cardboard tube. When it arrives at your house, unroll it and just let it relax back to it’s flat state.
I recommend putting a padding underneath the floorcloth, 1/8th thickness. The padding is available online and possibly at your local rug/carpet store or hardware store. The non-slip pad was designed for use under an area rug that goes on top of a carpet, so it won’t slip around. Your new floorcloth goes on top of the felt side and the non-stick grid side goes against the floor. This is important because the padding you put under a floorcloth will eventually imprint it’s own pattern into the floorcloth, and the felt side has no pattern to it.
To clean your new floorcloth, use a very mild liquid cleanser. I dilute white vinegar in water and use a soft scrubby sponge.
